GERDS Distributes Aid to Calamity Affected Families


The uttarakhand Disaster management Minister, Khajan Das, is touring Tehri Garhwal areas, visiting villages severely affected by recent cloud bursts, incessant rains and flood. There has been extensive damage to roads, school buildings, houses, drink water supply and crops.


While visiting Majhgaon village of Dhanaulti tehsil in Jaunpur Block, the Minister also participated in a relief Distribution Programme organize by Global Educational and Rural Development Society (GERDS) of Dehradun. The Minister also distributed dry ration bags to 50 families of the village, which haf been severely affected by recent natural calamities. The dry ration bags were provided by the above mentioned Society with the help of Mountain Forum Himalaya (MFH).

At the programme, District Panchayat Menber meera Saklani, Block Pramukh Geeta rawat, Kshetra Panchayat Member Uniyal, Panchayat Secretary Dangwal, Gram Pradhan Tyara kandari, Dr Matthew Prasad, President, GERDS, Dr SN Mishra, Umesh and Ashish Semwal from MFH were present.

The Minister, as well as Panchayat Members, appreciated the sincere and de4dicated efforts of Dr matthew Prasad in arranging relief fot the affected people through the society. The Minister also appealed to social organizations to come forward and support the relief work.

Dr Prasad said that considering the immediate requirements of severely affected families, dry rations were arranged for fifty families. Each dry ration bag contained 10 kg Atta, 5 kg Rice, 2 kg Dal, 1 liter mustard oil, spices, salt, 1 kg sugar, tea, milk, powder and biscuits. The list of severely affected families was provided by the panchayat member, which was verified on the spot by tehsil Ameen Naresh Bijalwan and Patwari rajendra Raturi.

According to Dr Prasad, there are more families in the village requiring assistance, but with its limited resources, the society could manage to provide immediate relief to 50 of them. He said, like wise, there were a number of villages where such help was required. Though the task of providing relief was big and challenging, yet social organization could play an important role in helping affected people at this time of crisis.
